Selangor is located in the central west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and is
bordered by Perak to the North, Pahang in the East and Negeri Sembilan to
the South. The state is located in the western end of Titiwangsa Mountains
which is divided into nine districts namely Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Kuala
Selangor, Gombak, Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang.
Despite some opinions about the origin of the name Selangor, but history has
proven that it is taken in relation with the name of the Selangor River which
flows to the Straits of Malacca where the rivers flow through the area of the
settlement now known as Kuala Selangor. The word Selangor itself did not carry
any clear meaning in English and researchers thought it might be an acronym,
a combination of, or changes to the original word.
Selangor has an area of about 7,930.20 km². The capital is Shah Alam, and Klang
is the Royal Town. The state of Selangor has 22 Parliamentary constituencies and
56 state constituencies. The projected population in 2015 is about 6,178,000
people which is also the highest in Malaysia.
