Prime Minister YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad launched the National Policy
on Industry 4.0 on 31 October 2018 at MITI Tower. Industry4WRD Policy is a
national policy for the transformation of the manufacturing and related services
sectors from 2018 to 2025. The policy contains three visions to make Malaysia:
a strategic partner for smart manufacturing and related services in Asia
Pacific;
a major destination for high tech industry investment; and
a total solutions provider for advanced technology.
Industry4WRD policy objectives are designed based on three main principles:
Attract (A) - Create (C) - Transform (T):
Attract (A) – attracting stakeholders to shift into Industry 4.0 applications and
technologies and enhance Malaysia's attractiveness as a preferred location
for smart manufacturing;
Create (C) – create a comprehensive ecosystem to support industry adoption
of Industry 4.0 and coordinate existing initiatives in various related areas such
as talent and labour, financing, infrastructure and regulation; and
Transform (T) – comprehensive transformation of the manufacturing sector to
enhance productivity, cost efficiency, technology applications and innovation
capabilities, local technology development and the creation of more highly
skilled workers
The Industry4WRD Readiness Assessment programme was designed to
evaluate an organisation's readiness to move to Industry 4.0. The main objectives
of the programme are to:
provide guidance on the level of readiness for organizations in the use of
Industry 4.0 elements;
identify areas of improvement in each of the measured dimensions;
recommend further actions to improve efficiency and productivity; and
establishing a baseline for industry adoption.
The adoption into Industry 4.0 will help the industry, especially small and
medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to improve efficiency and productivity in order
to remain relevant and competitive, domestically and globally.
