SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES ACTIVITIES IN MINISTRY OF PRIMARY
INDUSTRIES
Economic, Promotion and Investment Mission On Palm Oil to China and The
United States
YB Puan Teresa Kok, Minister of Primary Industries led the Economic, Promotion
and Investment Mission on Palm Oil to the Republic of China and United States of
America (USA) from 21 to 28 October 2018. Officials from the Ministry of Primary
Industries, Malaysian Palm Oil Board and Malaysian Palm Oil Council joined the
mission. The mission was important in order to explore market opportunities,
investment and establish industrial cooperation between Malaysia and the two
countries besides providing a platform for Malaysia to discuss and address
trade-related issues and access to those countries.
During the mission to China, YB Puan Teresa Kok officiated the Malaysia-China
Palm Oil Trade Seminar (POTS) and Exhibition 2018 themed "Trade expansion
by maximising opportunities through Malaysian palm oil". The programme was a
platform for leading experts in oil and fat industry to get together and for
information on trade and investment opportunities in palm oil sector to be shared.
YB Minister also visited Wilmar Global Research and Development Centre and
River & Ocean Cereals and Oils Group Co. Ltd. to learn more about oil operations
of companies in China.
In the USA, the mission started in San Francisco where YB Minister was the
special guest on "An Enchanted Evening with Martin Yan" show, which was the
launch of Chef Martin Yan's new television series "Taste of Malaysia with Martin
Yan", broadcast on KQED 9 television channel in the United States. The launch
featured eight classic Malaysian dishes at H.L Peninsula Restaurant in South San
Francisco. YB Puan Teresa also interacted with food writers to promote palm oil
as cooking oil during her visit to the country.
The Minister next visited Wilmar Oil and Fat Factory in Stockton, California where
she had the opportunity to observe the factory area and meet with representatives
of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Malaysian
External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). She ended her mission by
meeting with Malaysians living in San Francisco.
Economic and Investment Mission On Palm Oil and Rubber to North Africa
and Colombia
In an effort to expand new markets in the palm oil and rubber sectors, the Ministry
of Primary Industries identified several countries which are potential importers
and strategic partners in the commodity sector such as palm oil and rubber. The
Ministry of Primary Industries has thus organised a mission to promote these
commodities abroad.
YB Datuk Seri Shamsul bin Mohd Akin, Deputy Chief Minister of Industry led the
economic and investment missions to Egypt, Morocco and Colombia from 21 to
29 September 2018. The delegation also consisted of representatives from MPI,
Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysian Rubber Board (LGM), LGM
Properties Corporation (LGMPC), Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and
Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC).
