SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES Launch Of FGV-MPOB Initiative In Leading The Use Of B10
The government is working to increase palm oil content in biodiesel to 10 percent
in the transport sector. It is important in the effort to increase long term demand
for palm oil. One of the proactive steps taken by Malaysian Palm Oil Board
(MPOB) to make the B10 programme a success is through collaborative projects
with stakeholders such as Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGV).
The launch ceremony was held on 13 September 2018 to mark the collaboration
between MPOB and FGV in leading the use of B10 diesel for tankers, farm
machinery and small power plants. YB Puan Teresa Kok, Chief Minister of
Industry officiated the launch which was held at FGV Transport Services Sdn Bhd
in Port Klang.
Under the collaboration, MPOB undertakes a B10 utilisation trial project involving
FGV Transport Services Sdn Bhd tank truck for transport and farm machinery
sector at four FGV factories in Krau 02, Krau 04, Besout 6 and Sungai Tengi
SMEs for the industrial sector beginning October 2017 and March 2018.
The programme to commercialise biodiesel containing palm oil in Malaysia is
being implemented with Programme B5, a 5 percent blend of palm biodiesel with
95 percent petroleum diesel since 2011 and subsequently increased to 7 percent
palm oil biodiesel in 2014 in stages. The use of palm biodiesel has many benefits
to the environment these include contributing to the reduction in greenhouse gas
(GHG) emissions which is causing global warming, and diversify the use of
domestic resources.
Generally, the use of a 10 percent blend of palm biodiesel in petroleum diesel is
equivalent to reducing GHG emissions by 100,000 diesel vehicles a year. The
Malaysian oil industry is also adopting eco-friendly practices, while being
regulated by various laws and regulations that enable sustainable industrial
development. Increased use of palm biodiesel will contribute to sustainability and
enhance the image of the oil palm industry.
