2nd Asean Red Ribbon Award Ceremony for Outstanding Workplace 7 | SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES
(ARROW) and The 4th Asean Business Coalition on Hiv/aids (ASEAN-BCA)
YB Tuan M. Kulasegaran, Minister of Human Resources presented the 2nd
ASEAN Red Ribbon for Outstanding Workplace (ARROW)” and 4th ASEAN
Business Coalition on HIV / AIDS (ASEAN-BCA) awards at Swiss Garden Hotel
Kuala Lumpur. The event was organised by the Department of Occupational
Safety and Health (DOSH) under the Ministry of Human Resources in
collaboration with AIDS Foundation Malaysia.
The main objective of the awards is to promote employer involvement among
ASEAN members in the control and prevention of HIV / AIDS at workplace. In
2018, seven companies from ASEAN countries received the 2nd ASEAN Red
Ribbon for Outstanding Workplace (ARROW) for their outstanding achievement in
implementing HIV / AIDS prevention and prevention programmes at their
workplace.

In his address, YB Tuan M. Kulasegaran said over the 30-year history of HIV /
AIDS, data from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS)
shows that 280,000 HIV infections were reported in 2017, out of which, 170,000
are AIDS-related deaths. However, antiretroviral treatment has become more
accessible which in turn reduces AIDS-related deaths. Such improves quality of
life for people living with HIV. Although they are employees in the business sector,
they still face discrimination in the form of attitudes, practices and policies which
oppose their presence at the workplace. Initiatives to reduce these issues have
thus been implemented in the hope that discrimination against them will no longer
be a norm.
The ceremony which took place on 21 November 2018 was also attended by Mr.
Kung Phoak, ASEAN Deputy Secretary General for Socio-Cultural Affairs; Mr. Lim
Eng Hock, Deputy (Operation) Ministry of Human Resources; Ir. Omar bin Mat
Piah, Director-General of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health
(DOSH); Mr. Bakhtiar Talhah, ASEAN-BCA Coordinator; and the ASEAN-BCA
delegation.
