SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES ACTIVITIES IN MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
MALAYSIA
Official Visit By The Minister Of Defence To Turkey
Defence Minister of Malaysia, YB Tuan Haji Mohamad bin Sabu visited Turkey
from 17 to 19 December 2018 upon invitation by the Turkish Government. During
the visit, the Minister met with his colleague His Excellency Hulusi Akar at the
Ministry of National Defense Turkey and attended bilateral meetings jointly
chaired by Malaysia and Turkey.
Their discussion was, amongst others, on matters related to defense cooperation,
particularly on aspects of joint training and transfer of defense technology
between the two countries. The Minister of Defence also made a courtesy call on
the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Palace Complex.
The visit to Turkey served as an important platform to clarify the Government’s
commitment in reinforcing the cooperation and the defense industry between both
nations.

Official Visit By The Minister Of Defence To China
Defence Minister of Malaysia, YB Tuan Haji Mohamad bin Sabu visited China
from 23 to 26 October 2018 during which, he launched the Keel Laying Littoral
Mission Ship 1 (LMS 1) and First Steel Cutting LMS 2 at the shipbuilding dock in
Wuhan, China.
Malaysia, in collaboration with China, builds four LMS vessels for the use of the
Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). Two of the ships are built in China while another
two are built in Malaysia, and involved the sharing and transfer of technology
between the two countries.
It is a procurement of defense asset by RMN from China to realise the 15-to-5
Fleet Transformation Programme. The Minister of Defense also attended the 8th
Beijing Xiangshan Forum upon invitation by the Chinese government and at the
same time, to foster the cordial relationship between the Ministry of Defence
Malaysia and the Ministry of National Defence China.
The visit was an important platform which testified the commitment of both nations
in furthering the cooperation through defense diplomacy while ensuring the
sustainability of the country's sovereignty and stability.
