SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES Official Visit By The Minister Of Defence To Washington, USA
YB Tuan Haji Mohamad bin Sabu, Minister of Defence Malaysia visited the
United States from 23 to 29 September 2018 when he also met with the US
Secretary of Defence, James Norman Mattis. This was followed with a visit to
New York to attend the High-Level Meeting on Action for Peacekeeping and to
accompany the Malaysian Prime Minister to the 73rd United Nations General
Assembly.
The Minister’s visit to Washington was a follow up to his earlier meeting with
the United States Secretary of Defence in Singapore in June 2018. The
purpose of this visit is to continue the discussions on defense cooperation
between the two countries while maintaining bilateral Malaysia-US relations.
The Minister was accompanied by YBhg. General Tan Sri Dato' Seri
Commander Hj. Zulkifli bin Hj. Zainal Abidin, Commander of the Malaysian
Armed Forces.

Enhanced Co-operation On Defence Between Malaysia And Japan
Malaysia and Japan will continue to strengthen cooperation on defence with
the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 11 September 2018
in Tokyo, Japan. Representing Malaysia and Japan were the Minister of
Defence YB Tuan Haji Mohamad bin Sabu and Japanese Minister of Defence,
Itsunori Onodera.
This agreement will heighten the relationship between both countries, while
enhancing strategic cooperation to address security issues on terrorism
threats in Southeast Asia as well as humanitarian initiatives and military
training.
The memorandum is testimony of the strong alliance between Malaysia and
Japan while ensuring the future direction of the country's defence sector.
