The 12th Asean Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) And 5th ADMM-PLUS
Minister of Defense YB Tuan Haji Mohamad bin Sabu led the Malaysian
delegation at the 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and 5th
ADMM-Plus (ADMM-Plus) from 19 to 20 October 2018 in Singapore.
ADMM and ADMM-Plus are both the platform for ASEAN Ministers of Defence
and the Plus countries to discuss regional and international security and defence
issues as well as to build trust and confidence amongst member countries.
All the defence ministers of ASEAN countries signed the Joint Declaration of the
ASEAN Defence Ministers, stating commitment to implement initiatives such as
the establishment of ASEAN Chemical Network, Biological and Radiological
(CBR) Defence Experts, proposed initiatives to address terrorism through the
concept of Resilience, Response, Recovery (3R) and information exchange
initiative known as “Our Eyes”. All the three initiatives demonstrate strategic
cooperation between ASEAN members in fighting against non-traditional security
threats, particularly on issues of extremism and terrorism.
The Minister of Defense also took the opportunity to extend invitation to all
Defense Ministers to attend the Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2019
(LIMA’19) which was to be held from 26 to 30 March 2019 in Langkawi.
