GRESS ON MALAYSIAN FRANCHISE INDUSTRY

In 2019, franchise registrations recorded a seven-fold increase. A total of
292 franchises were registered during the year compared to 40 in 2018,
35 in 2017, 32 in 2016 and 48 in 2015. Such was the result of the ministry’s
efforts in improving the management of franchise sector, making
amendements to the Franchise Act 1998 and organising many franchise
expos to match industry players with investors.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) led Officiate of Franchise International Malaysia 2019 (FIM 2019) by Deputy Prime Minister
eight foreign trade missions, resulting in 1,083 business deals worth YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.
RM774.88 million with RM23.19 million investment value realised as at
31 December 2019. KPDNHEP also organised three franchise expo in
2019 in Johor, Penang and Sabah. A total of 63 companies took part in
these expo, generating potential investment of RM41.28 million.
