aysia’s Roadmap Towards Zero Single-use Plastics, 2018-2030 7 | SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES
Malaysia’s Roadmap Towards Zero Single-Use Plastics, 2018-2030 was
launched by YB Puan Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology,
Environment and Climate Change on 17 October 2018 at Kuala Lumpur
Convention Center (KLCC) in conjunction with the International Greentech & Eco
Products Exhibition & Conference (IGEM) Malaysia 2018.
With the vision, "Towards zero-use plastics for a clean and healthy Malaysian
environment by 2030", the roadmap was developed to provide a policy direction
to all stakeholders including State Governments in taking a unified and collective
approach to reducing the use of plastics in Malaysia.
In Malaysia's quest to become a developed nation, economic development must
be balanced with environmental protection to ensure the sustainability and
well-being of the people. This roadmap will encourage local industry to launch
new environmentally friendly alternative products. In addition to domestic
demand, these products can also penetrate the global market as the world moves
towards customising products and processes that address single-use plastic
pollution.
