SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES ACTIVITIES IN MINISTRY OF WORKS
National Technical Profession Day of JKR 2018
The Department of Works (JKR) National Technical Profession Day, themed
"Technical Profession the Pioneer of Development", was officiated by YB Tuan
Baru Bian, Minister of Works at JKR Malaysia Headquarters, Jalan Sultan
Salahuddin, Kuala Lumpur. The two-day programme was held on 4 and 5
December 2018 following the government's announcement to celebrate National
Technical Profession Day on the first Saturday of December each year.
The main objective of the celebration is to recognise and merit the services of the
country's technical professionals, particularly the staff of JKR Malaysia in the
country’s development and their contribution to the well-being of the society,
besides promoting, enhancing knowledge and attracting the public to the
technical profession.
Various programmes were organised, including the presentation of JKR Technical
Personnel Award 2018 to YBhg. Tan Sri Ir. Dr. Jamilus Hussein as well as
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities and
competitions by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), presentation of ASEAN
Chartered Professional Engineer certificates which entitle applicants to practise
engineering in Southeast Asian countries as well as technical talk sharing
sessions by special guest speakers.
There was also exhibition of heavy machinery such as Roller, Dozer Mounted on
Low Loader Trailer, Bridge Inspector Vehicle and disaster preparedness vehicle.
The participation of 20 exhibition booths from various agencies hyped up the
celebration with the aim of sharing knowledge and products related to the
technical and engineering industries.
The event which was open to the public recorded over 400 participants and
visitors from various government and private agencies, including academics from
universities and school students.
