Motorcycle Road Tunnel Transformation Project
YB Tuan Baru Bian, Minister of Works conducted a working visit to the Federal
Road Motorway FT02 at Sungai Way Motorcycle Tunnel, Petaling Jaya to see for
himself the results of the Motorcycle Tunnel Transformation Project which was
implemented on 6 September 2018.
The Sungai Way Motorcycle Tunnel is a pilot project aimed at providing comfort
and safety to motorcyclists using appropriate pavement materials, colored tunnel,
lighter tunnel space and better drainage system. This initiative indirectly
encourages motorcyclists to focus more on risky areas such as these tunnels to
reduce the risk of accidents.
The tunnel transformation project would be carried out in stages to all 14 tunnels
along the motorcycle lane. The next step would involve two tunnels namely the
Nan Yang Siang Pau Tunnel (Kuala Lumpur direction) and the North Road Tunnel
(Kuala Lumpur direction) which would be upgraded. The Minister of Works was
also brought to visit the construction of the overhead motorcycle bridge at
Templer Road to find out the current status of the project.
