Dato' Seri Alias Haji Ahmad, Chief Secretary to the Ministry of Education Malaysia
officiated the National Teachers’ Day Celebration 2018 themed 'Teachers Drive
Education Transformation’ in Putrajaya on 16 May 2018. Also present was
Malaysia Education Director-General Datuk Dr Amen Monday.
In his speech, Dato' Seri Alias expressed his appreciation to the teachers for their
contribution and dedication in educating the nation.
"Educators have sacrificed a great deal of time and energy in handling the
workload. The collaboration of those involved in our country's education system in
a professional manner helps realise our dream to produce smart and competitive
Malaysians. Educators must continue to challenge their abilities and equip
themselves with the scenario of this new millennial cycle as we strive to change
the way we work and explore new areas," he said.
The gathering of nearly 1,500 teachers nationwide saw two educational figures
namely the former teacher of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan
Mansor, Kuala Terengganu, Hamzah Othman being announced as National
Teacher. Meanwhile, former Director General of Education, Tan Sri Dr. Khair
Mohamad Yusof was announced as the 2018 Education Leader.
