SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES Malaysian Games (SUKMA) & Paralympics Games (PARA SUKMA) The
Platform To Unleash Athletes’ Talents
The year 2018 has seen many successes achieved by the national athletes whom
we call 'Malaysian Heroes'. The road to their international triumph began with the
accomplishments at the national level at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) and
Malaysian Paralympics Games (Para SUKMA) and in 2018, Perak Darul Ridzuan
hosted the games.
Both events are held once every two years, which aim to unleash the talents of
future athletes who will make great strides in the international sports arena. As a
host, Perak has provided new sports facilities particularly at the Ipoh Sports
Complex. The games in 2018 also featured the participation of 15 contenders
competing for the medal in 29 sports events from 11 to 22 September 2018. The
Terengganu contingent has proved that they are the national sports power after
bagging the overall champion of SUKMA Games 2018.
In addition to SUKMA, Perak also hosted Para SUKMA which saw outstanding
athletes from all over the country. A total of 1,968 outstanding athletes gathered
in Ipoh and won medals from 10 different sports throughout the event that took
place from 23 to 29 November 2018. The team from Sarawak emerged as
champion after winning 61 gold, 62 silver and 40 bronze medals.
Congratulations to all the winners as well as the State Government of Perak and
Perak Sports Council for the success of the event. Appreciation also goes to the
National Sports Council, the National Sports Institute, sponsors and all agencies
and organisations who have been involved in SUKMA and Para SUKMA 2018.
We hope to meet again in 2020 in Johor Darul Takzim.
