SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES MAHA has come far from its early beginnings to where it is today. While it is
specifically on agriculture, horticulture and agro tourism, this biennial
programme has established itself as part of the national landscape that
showcases Malaysia's progress and achievements.
MAHA is generally a programme that features various new agriculture-related
products based on the latest technologies, local and foreign innovations,
effective marketing and production strategies and other approaches that are
able to help the sector.
Speaking at the launch, the prime minister emphasised that MAHA should be
the best platform for the community of farmers, breeders, fishermen and
entrepreneurs of the agro-based industry to introduce their products and
services to the public.
Although the potential is huge, the agricultural sector’s contribution to Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) is relatively small. The contribution to GDP only
increased to 8.17 percent in 2017 from 8.07 percent in the previous year.

YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, Prime Minister accompanied by YB Dato' Salahuddin bin Ayub, Minister
of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry have their attention on the turkey at the Farm In The City Seri

Kembangan while visiting the MAHA exhibition 2018 in MAEPS Serdang, Selangor

Despite the small percentage, the economic value of the agro food sector was
significant at RM37.4 billion for 2017 compared with RM36.7 billion the
previous year.
Therefore, the production of agro-food products is seen as a great potential to
increase so that Malaysia can meet its food supply guarantees and not rely
entirely on imported supplies.
In the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (11th Plan) Review presented in Parliament, the
government aims to increase the contribution of the agribusiness sector to
value added by 42.8 percent by 2020.
