Convention On Empowerment Of Local Authorities (PBT)
The Prime Minister YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad launched the Convention
on Empowerment of Local Authorities (PBT) at Putrajaya International
Convention Center (PICC) on 10 December 2018. The two-day convention,
themed "Our City Is Our Own" was held to strengthen the role of local authorities
in line with the direction of the new Government and to provide Council members
the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute thoughts towards making the
local services more dynamic.
The convention also includes the sharing of views by international speakers from
the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) on best practices on Local
Government Election and Towering Personality For Local Government
Councillors. Eighteen foreign and local leaders addressed current issues and
proposed strategies in implementing the PBT agenda such as Sustainable
Development Goals and New Urban Agenda.
The convention is the first platform to bring together 3,000 mayors, presidents,
PBT secretaries and councillors from all over Malaysia in a collective discourse.
This convention is expected to provide added value to meet the aspirations of
improving service delivery system in the future.

Convention on Empowerment of Local Authorities is an initiative by KPKT to bring together all those involved in
administrative matters at PBT to share views and ideas, according to YB Puan Hajah Zuraida binti Kamaruddin.
