National Sports Day 2018: Malaysia Towards A Sporting Nation
While the country focuses on high performing sports, the involvement of the entire
Malaysian community in mass sports regardless of background, age, rank or race
is seen as a phenomenon that should serve as a guide for Malaysia towards
becoming a sporting nation. Such importance has always been emphasised by
the Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which states the
country’s aspiration to develop a future generation with good physical and mental
health with keen interest in sports.
More than 40,000 Malaysians attended the celebration which was held on 13
October 2018 at Kuala Lumpur Sports City, Bukit Jalil. The Prime Minister YAB
Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad officiated the event which also included various
interesting activities such as fun runs, fun rides, e-sports and extreme sports.
More interestingly, 1.6 million Malaysians joined the National Sports Day 2018
celebrations held in various states and districts and at various agencies and
schools throughout the country.
